Pastor BJ Sanders

planted Torch Community Church for one simple reason, he hates what church has become enough to want to revolutionize while loving the church enough to step in and make a difference. BJ is passionately in love with Christ, his family, and the people in the church.

BJ grew up in the church and early on was unsettled at how inwardly focused many churches have become and how little most churches actually get about the business of Christ. He felt called into vocational ministry at only 16 years old. And it was in college that he decided that he would need to choose to either abandon the church and be committed to other Christian organizations or to stay true to God's call in his life. Thankfully, BJ chose to roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty. He has been pastoring in some capacity in the church since 2004.

BJ married his high school sweetheart in 2004. They are the perfect combination as she is the stability and foundation to his hurried and decisive personality.

She keeps him patient and he keeps her passionate. They have 4 children, Luke, Lucy, Elliotte (a girl), and Elizabeth.

BJ double majored in college, receiving a BA in both Speech Communications and Philosophy. He has since attended seminary at Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, TX and the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY.

​

Both BJ and Jen have a passion for Christ, His church, and missions. Both have worked in several regional and national mission projects. BJ is on the board for Young Life Capernaum, a para-church Christian organization dedicated to reaching and serving kids with disabilities in the name of Christ. But they both would say that their international mission experiences are the highlight of their Christian experience.

BJ believes in expository preaching and unconditional love. He would love the opportunity to minister with and to you at Torch Community Church.
