Welcome To Torch Community Church
Who we are, what we believe, and how we come together as a unified church body

Torch's Identity
In a single statement, Torch is a body of believers who regularly come together to learn love God, love His church, and love our community.
In practice, that means we teach biblically, we love our neighbors unconditionally, we work to spread the Gospel unitedly, and we worship unashamedly.

Torch has grown from humble beginnings as an impromptu house church. Seriously! Torch is the result of a small group of believers (led by a former youth pastor) who decided to come together to worship God and seek His word — nothing more. Over time, and through God's plan, Torch grew to the church it is today.

Our identity begins and ends in a pursuit of Jesus. Jesus said, "seek me and you shall find me when you seek me with all your heart". We just want to be a church where we can seek Christ with all our heart and mind. We are a diverse group of believers. We are welcoming to the unchurched and newly churched (we aren't perfect and you don't have to be either!). We care more about your heart than your denomination. And in everything, we want to be faithful to the Bible.

Are you interested in seeking Christ? Are you looking for a community of people who support each other as they seek to live out God's word? If so, join us!

Current Sermon Series
Summer in the Psalms
Comfort, encouragement, perspective — Psalms is a compilation of prayers, poems, and songs to the Lord. Written in anguish, joy, thanksgiving, and adoration, Psalms reminds us of God's unchanging relational presence in our lives, and our equally unchanging need for daily communion with Him. Tune in and learn about God's goodness, faithfulness, sovereignty, and love in all circumstances as we walk through one of the most relatable books of the Bible.

Meet The Pastor
Pastor BJ Sanders
Education:
Dallas Theological Seminary
Southern Baptist Seminary
Preaching Style:
Expository (break down and explain the scriptures)
BJ's call to ministry came at the young age of 16. As he pursued vocational ministry, he began to see a misalignment in the Biblical calling of the church and how many churches were operating today.
Because of this, BJ took a leap of faith to start a small house church — Torch Community Church. The idea was simple. Follow the Bible, worship authentically, love people, and focus more on Christ and less on inward politics and distractions. Somewhere along the way God stepped in and BJ continues to lead Torch with the same mission.
BJ married his high school sweetheart, Jen, who has walked with him through this exciting journey. Jen is a great compliment to BJ, keeping him grounded and organized. They have four kids together.

Both BJ and Jen have a passion for Christ, His church, and missions. BJ is on the local Navigators ministry board and is the Chair of the branch of Navigators dedicated to friends with disabilities.
What We Believe
Too often, churches and Christians are divided by interpretations of things that, honestly, aren't of the highest importance. We think it is more important to establish a foundational belief in the one true God and his gospel. Our beliefs can be summed up by the Apostle's Creed (below).

This is our emphasis. The rest we're working to figure out together. Visit us on Sunday to see what that looks like (spoiler alert - it'll be a room of people worshiping God and walking through the Bible, verse by verse).

The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
The creator of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
Born of the virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
And sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
Whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the universal church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting,
Amen.
